Abstract

Nel contesto delle discussioni sull’enargheia, gli antichi commentatori mettono spesso in rilievo le qualità emotive della narrazione di Tucidide, concentrandosi sulle emozioni suscitate nei destinatari nel corso del processo di ricezione. Questo contributo ricorre all’attuale teoria del predictive processing per spiegare in che modo Tucidide attivi le emozioni dei lettori. Secondo tale teoria, le emozioni sono fondamentalmente incarnate, e l’interocezione – la percezione dello stato interno del corpo – svolge un ruolo centrale nella loro costruzione. Si sostiene che gli indizi interocettivi presenti nel testo, inseriti in un contesto situazionale dotato di senso, siano particolarmente propizi alla generazione dell’emotività. Queste tesi vengono illustrate attraverso due passi tucididei assunti come casi di studio: la battaglia di Pilo nel libro V e l’ultima resistenza degli Ateniesi in Sicilia nel libro VII.
